Ethno is JM International’s program for folk, world and traditional music.

The program, founded in 1990 and present today in over 16 countries, is aimed at young musicians aged 13-30 with a mission to revive and keep alive global cultural heritage amongst youth.

Through a series of annual international summer music camps, Ethno engages young people by working together with schools, conservatories and other groups of youth. At the core of Ethno is its democratic peer-to-peer learning approach whereby young people teach each other the music from their countries and cultures. It is a non-formal pedagogy that has been developed over the past 25 years and embraces the principles of intercultural dialogue and understanding. It provides a unique opportunity for young people from across the globe to come together and engage through music in a manner that is characterised by the respect, generosity and openness.

Jeunesses Musicales International (JM International) is the largest youth music NGO in the world, created in Brussels, Belgium, in 1945, with the mission to "enable young people to develop through music across all boundaries". With a vast array of activities, member organisations currently in 40 countries and contact

organisations in another 15, JMI is a global network providing opportunities for young people to engage with music. The JMI network reaches over 6 million young people aged 13-30 per year through more than 40,000 activities, which embrace all styles of music, and coordinates cross-border exchange opportunities on the international level.

Ethno is trademarked by JM International, the rights to organise Ethno camps and use all branding and resources associated with it are exclusively reserved to JM International’s member organisations. Members are selected through a vigorous application process so to ensure that credibility and impact of the organisations’ projects and programs. In Uganda, these rights are attributed to the Ethno Uganda.
